Pallino: The small single ball accompanying most bocce sets. It is the first play of every round and is the goal of all the other balls to follow. Huck it down the court and bocce on!

Bocce: The large balls that are rolled to score points.

Cappo: The person designated to represent the team and decide on coin toss, point scores, rulings and protest… aka "Bad Ass" or "The Boss"

Live Ball: Any bocce ball that is legally put into play by being rolled past the fault line and does not hit the backboard.

Dead Ball: Any bocce ball that touches the backboard or bounces off the court is dead and removed from the court.

Inside Ball: The bocce closest to the pallino.

Outside ball(s): Any other ball further away from the pallino than the "inside ball"

Bageled: You guessed it… A team or player with no points in an entire game.

Ball Buster: Someone with serious “attitude” or a powerful bocce shot that scatters one or more balls.

Frame: A frame begins by tossing the palino (small ball) and ends when both teams have thrown all eight of their bocce balls.

Inbounds/Out of Bounds: An inbounds throw means the ball comes to a stop inside or touching any part of the line. Out of bounds is out of play and does not count.

Inside Ball: An inbounds bocce ball that is currently closest to the pallino is the inside ball, or scoring ball. The inside ball often changes several times during a frame.

Knockout Ball: Ball that wipes out all the other balls that are currently in play.

Mid-Court Line: The center of your court, marked usually by a white line on the sideboard. On the first toss the pallino must pass this point.

Pac-Man: A bocce ball that rolls in front of the pallino making it disappear from view.

Roll Off: When two teams or players have the same points at the end of the night, a player from each team takes turns throwing a single bocce ball to get closest to a placed pallino.

Shortski: Ball that lands way short of the intended target.

"Bacio!": Shouted by players. In italian it means "kiss" and is shouted when a bocce touches or "kisses" the pallino (Now you're just showing off!).

Hot Mustard: A ball with way too much juice that rolls through the court and hits that back board ruling it dead and removed from the court.

Walk of Shame: Ouch. Yep, you messed up. Your pallino throw wasn’t far enough or in play so it’s time to take the “walk of shame.” You have to go pick it up and hand it to your opponents – because now it’s their turn to start the frame.
